The Metallic Trend Will Be Big This Fall

The metallic trend has never really left the scene. Every couple of years, we see the trend make its way back into fashion. Its a trend the fashion industry will never really let go; the shiny, glistening, glamorous fabrics will become very popular this fall. Debuting in gowns full of sparkle and tailored blazers we will see a lot of metallics.

Lets face it the trend can either be flattering or it can be overwhelming. Recently, the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics drew in 26.3 million viewers in the U.K. alone, all of whom got a close look at some of the metallic dresses we will see this fall from well known fashion houses. Super models including, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Lindsey Wixon strutted their stuff down the runway giving us a taste of exactly what we will surely see some Hollywood starlet wearing on the red carpet. However, a few models is not confirmation of a trend, especially considering the fact that this trend as been on the rise for quite some time now.

Enter Vogue, not just any issue of Vogue, the September issue. Some would call it the bible. The bible that is revised, edited and re-written every year, in order to tell you what to wear, and how to wear it for the next 12 months of your life. Vogue says the metallic trend is back. The September issue features a full on spread of the dresses showcased during the 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. Typically Vogue gives us high fashion, often unattainable. This spread shows us a mix of dresses both for the red carpet diva and contemporary women looking for a glamourous gown for a night at the ballet.

Understandably, gold metallics were popular during the Olympic games, but thats not all we will be seeing. For the first time silver will rival gold and match it to a tee. Brands such as Theyskens’ Theory and Surface to Air will give us tailored metallics including a blazer and skirt.

Over the years, we have all learned the hard way that a bit of metallic is a good way to shimmer, too much and you will blind the public. This Fall visual merchandisers and stylists will be working overtime to show the public how to wear metallics. We will see numerous videos, editorials and blog posts giving insight as what metallic pieces are a must have.
