How to Keep Your Look on Trend This New Year’s Eve

Hair

Your hair can be your best accessory, so why not try something different, or ask your hairdresser or a friend to experiment with your locks to create a new look? If you usually have a wave in your hair, try straightening it. If you always wear it down, try an ‘up do’. The contemporary quiff is a great style to try this season – think Rihanna or La Roux – or try a plaited hair headband as an easy way to add glamour to your new hair style.

Tip:

Make sure any hairpieces match your natural colour!

Make-up

It’s all about dramatic make up with either a gorgeous smoky eye look – using deep rich, sumptuous colours like the berry shades that are everywhere this season – or festive gold. If you prefer the attention to be focused on your lips, try the 40s/50s look with simple eyes and bright matt red lipstick.

Tip:

When creating your look keep the drama to either the eyes or the lips. Don’t be tempted to go out with heavily made-up eyes and bright red lips as well, it’s just too much.

Shoes

If you are attending an indoor event, heels are always fabulous. You can still wear your gladiator sandals this year and wedges, platforms and stilettos are all fair game. Embellished, studded, sequinned and lace-up heels are all huge this season, or try some of the latest brogues if you prefer flats. From pumps to over-knee boots, the sky’s your limit – so why not be daring with you footwear and make a statement?

Tip:

Avoid wearing brand new shoes for the first time on your big night out – always break them in beforehand.

Sequins

Sequins are bang on trend and they are even acceptable as daywear right now so there is no need to be shy. You can dress this look up or down: wear sequinned items casually with jeans, or go for a full sequin dress, there are no limits so have fun with it! If head to toe sequins are too much for you, try accessorising with a sequin clutch or embellished shoes.

Tip:

If you opt for a full sequin dress, remember to keep accessories simple.

Clothing Tip:

If you are going for a low-cut dress, keep your hemline at a respectable length or you risk ‘overkill’. There are some great mini-dresses around with high necks, and they look super classy and glamorous.
